Octopress Publishing is a new imprint from Deeply Dapper, focusing on creating a stable of creators, writers, artists, and layout designers that we can team up with each other to design and release unique, professional tabletop roleplaying games.
For Writers & Creators:
Octopress Publishing will pay realistic per-word rates (Currently $.15 per word) for your work as well as a profit percentage after costs. You will always retain the copyrights to your work and can purchase physical copies of your game at cost. At the conclusion of the publishing contract, the creator retains all rights, art, and work related to the game. We are seeking writers and creators who have new projects or older releases in need of a facelift that should be reaching a wider audience. We will also be looking for writers to create additional content and adventures for projects we are running!
For Artists
We are looking for a variety of freelance artists that can create work for the games we publish. We will be seeking art for covers, black & white interiors, and full-color art in a variety of styles and subject matter. Our goal with Octopress, as artists ourselves, is to pay honest rates that are in scale with what artists should be charging. How it works:
Octopress Publishing will work with the creator to finalize their game text, talk to them about what their vision is for the final game, how they’d like to proceed with crowdfunding, and pay them for their creations. Then, we go to work on layout, graphic design and art. We have over two decades of experience as a freelance artist and designer and we are assembling a studio of other freelancers we can call on to create something that feels professional and awesome. (Awesome is a publishing term, right?)
Once the book is ready to go, we will make a game plan for crowdfunding. The idea of doing most of it upfront is to avoid many of the crowdfunding pitfalls of late projects and disgruntled backers. The project will still be able to pay for the work and spread the word in the way only crowdfunding can but with the added benefit of a faster turnaround.
During the campaign, we will likely ask the creators involved to promote it across social media, do some podcasts, etc, but we will handle the project and associated tasks. We will be releasing games with two models: Traditionally printed and fulfilled games and books and faster at-cost and POD projects in association with DriveThru RPG or other Print On Demand companies. Depending on the project, this will allow us the flexibility to take more chances on unusual and unique games - my favorite kinds.

Who is this “WE” you refer to?
Deeply Dapper and Octopress Publishing is almost entirely Kris & Lindsay McClanahan. Kris does the art, design, and most of the writing and Lindsay is the driving force behind the scenes, making sure he stays on track. Together, we’ve been running Deeply Dapper since 2011, making unusual creations, decor, books, and geeky delights.
